Seniors!

April 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Dear Scholars Academy Seniors,

Please click the following link if you are interested in making a graduation speech.  You must submit the speech to your English teacher by May 8.

You should be receiving one final reminder vis a vis Senior Brunch (May 18) in the next couple of days.  I want to reiterate to everyone that we need to know the following information posthaste.

  1. Whether you are coming
  2. Whether you intend to bring guests (tickets are $40) each
  3. Whether you require a waiver or reduced price tickets (a small number will be available)

Even if you do not intend to bring guests, I must know whether or not you personally intend to attend so that we can submit a final headcount to the Surf Club.

No more teachers, no more books!

Best Regards,

Andy Weiss

Breakfast of Champions

April 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Dear Scholars Academy Parents,

Is it the fourth quarter already? It’s amazing to think how soon we will bid farewell to one group of graduating seniors and wave hello to a new cohort of incoming freshmen.

So much has happened so quickly this year that we have to take pause and remember to come together as a community from time to time. To that end, I would like to propose a new tradition to our parents:

The Scholars Academy Breakfast of Champions.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines “champion” as follows:

cham·pi·on (n)

  1. One that wins first place or first prize in a competition.
  2. One that is clearly superior or has the attributes of a winner: a champion at teaching.
  3. An ardent defender or supporter of a cause or another person: a champion of the homeless.

The definition is almost too perfect. What are we if not a bunch of competitive winners who defend and support our children?

On the last Thursday of every month, let’s meet in our new Media Center for an informal breakfast. There will be no agendas – we can just talk about whatever we can do to more effectively champion for our children. We’ll keep it short and sweet, from 8 AM to 9 AM.

Let’s schedule our first Breakfast of Champions for Thursday, April 24 and the next one for Thursday, May 29. Depending on interest and scheduling, we can decide whether or not we’d like to continue over summer vacation, but I’d like for this to be an ongoing tradition into next year and beyond.

No need to RSVP – but feel free to get in touch with me if you’d like to lend a hand with the breakfast part of this rendezvous.

See you soon!

Best Regards,

Andy Weiss
