American Young Ambassadors Program

Attention Scholars,

Are you interested in representing your country while travelling abroad?

Thirty students ages 15-18 will be selected to be Young Ambassadors-at-Large at the 2008 Beijing Olympics by the American Young Ambassadors Program.  Selection criteria include achievement in academics or athletics, in addition to public service. 

You can complete an online application by filling out the following form: http://ysa.org/Portals/0/grants/ayap_application.htm

You will also need to get two teachers to fill out online letters of recommendation, which are located here:  http://ysa.org/Portals/0/grants/ayap_recommendation.htm

I will be happy to write a recommendation for any Scholars Academy student who is currently in good standing – stop by my office in Room 2803 if you need any help.

Quality Education Committee Meeting

Citizens Alert!

The City of Miami Beach’s Quality Education Committee Meeting will be meeting on the fourth floor of City Hall (1700 Convention Center Drive) at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, January 22.  The agenda will include, among other things, the implementation of the city’s education compact with MDCPS.

Academic Integrity Policy Public Comment

Hello everyone,

The centerpiece of last night’s meeting was the introduction of a new Academic Integrity policty for Miami Beach Senior High.  I want to make sure everyone is on board with the requirements and implications of the policy before it goes into effect, and so I am opening it up for a week of public comment by students, parents and teachers.

National College Fair

 

Representatives from more that 150 colleges and universities will be available to answer questions at the 2008 National College fair from 12-4 PM on Sunday, February 17, at the Sheraton Miami Mart Hotel, 777 NW 72 Ave. 

Information sessions on financial aid, college planning and admission and testing requirements will also be offered.  Counseling and computer centers will allow students to access career interest surveys and information about college preparation, admissions and scholarships. 

This is a great, FREE opporunity to get the ball rolling on the college selection process.  I recommend it to sophomores and juniors in addition to seniors.  Select sessions will be presented in Spanish and Hatian-Creole.

Dear Scholars Academy students and parents:
